Description
This is a Non-Smoking Apartment:
Our Marais - Place des Vosges is a classic two-bedroom, two-bathroom apartment. Superbly well located, the apartment is situated directly on the famous square, 'Place des Vosges', in the heart of Paris' historic Marais District.

One enters the apartment thru a quiet and well-kept private courtyard. The scrubbed stone flooring, stucco arches, fountain, potted plants, boxwood greens, and flowers make a handsome and welcoming entrance to the apartment building. Some apartment windows overlook the courtyard while others overlook a side street. The apartment is on two floors. On the main ground floor are the living room, dining area, kitchen, bathroom and a bedroom. The spacious living room has comfortable seating and a TV. The sofa converts to a double sleep sofa. There is an elegant dining table with seating for six. The well equipped kitchen has all the modern appliances along with ample cookware, dishware, glassware and a  Nespresso maker.

The spacious bedroom on the main floor has two twin beds that can be made-up as a large King-size bed. This bedroom offers lots of closet storage space. The full bathroom has a bathtub with an overhead shower (and shower curtain), a toilet, a bidet and a large sink and mirror.

The second floor has a very large bedroom with two twin beds (that can be made-up in advance as a large King-size bed). The bedroom is also furnished with a daybed that has a pull out trundle-bed underneath. There are two large armoires - one of each side of the bedroom door. The second full bathroom has a bathtub with an overhead shower (and shower curtain), a toilet and a large vanity with a sink and wall mirror. Off the hallway between the bedroom and the bathroom is a large walk-in linen and hanging closet.

 Your Marais Neighborhood:
The Marais is the oldest neighborhood in Paris. Historically, this was the Jewish quartier and it still retains some of it’s ethnic charm with a beautiful synagogue, kosher bakeries and popular Falafal take-out eateries. The Marais’ ancient streets now house trendy fashion names and art galleries. There are many specialty food shops; boulangeries, pastisseries, green grocers, cheese shops, etc. along with the famous ‘Les Enfants Rouge’ open market place. People love wandering the streets of the Marais discovering its hidden surprises! At your apartment’s doorstep, under the handsome arched arcades surrounding the square, can be found famous restaurants, fun cafes and lovely art galleries.

Place des Vosges:
The Place des Vosges, originally Place Royale, is the oldest planned square in Paris, France. It is located in the Marais district, and it straddles the dividing-line between the 3rd and 4th arrondissements of Paris. It was a fashionable and expensive square to live in during the 17th and 18th centuries, and one of the main reasons for the chic nature of Le Marais among the Parisian nobility.

Number 6 of the Place des Vosges is the Hôtel de Rohan-Guémenée, and a school was housed there at various times. It is on the 2nd floor that Victor Hugo and his family lived from 1832 to 1848, before their exile to Guernesey. The apartment was transformed into a ‘Home Museum’ in 1902, becoming the House of Victor Hugo. Today it belongs to the City of Paris and is thus part of the treasures of Paris Museums, which inaugurated its renovation in May 2021. The building became a historical monument in 1954.

Place des Vosges is a Royal Square whose beautifully organized architecture was ordered by King Henri IV and consisted initially of 36 identical mansions except for the King’s and Queen’s pavilions.  Work began in 1605 and the square was inaugurated in 1612 by King Louis XIII in honor of his betrothal to Ana of Austria only two years after the death of his father King Henri IV.  It is the oldest Parisian square and was named after the first French département having paid its taxes fully following the French Revolution.

The quote of Victor Hugo engraved on one of the arches of the square is of particular inspiration to Fabien Rouillard: "To create is to remember". It must have inspired many artists, because the Marais district is a lovely promenade for Parisians as well as for visitors, and it is also a place rich in artistic and cultural creation, illustrated by the many art galleries present around the Place des Vosges, and by the musicians who enhance their music in the fabulous acoustics under the arches of the Place des Vosges.

Hidden Tea Room at Place des Vosges
The Maison Mulot has opened its first location outside of its historic St-Germain-des-Prés location in the Maison Victor Hugo museum in the Marais. They serve full lunch, and brunch on Sundays, in addition to pastries and light snacks. There are a dozen tables in the quiet garden courtyard, as well as a stylish indoor seating if the weather isn’t cooperative. Open Tuesday-Sunday 10am-6pm.
