This is a Non-Smoking Apartment.
In 1919, three weeks after the World War I victory parade in Paris, a daring young aviator named Charles Godefroy flew his Newport biplane right through the Arc de Triomphe. While we’re not suggesting you try this at home, we are in a position to offer you a home a quelques pas (within a stone’s throw) of where this heroic feat took place.
And the rent is so reasonable, your bookkeeper will barely notice.
The Arc de Triomphe is one end of a massive axis of 19th Century urban planning, which also includes the Champs Elysées and the Louvre, and ends at the Grande Arche de la Défense (known in Paris simply as La Défense). It sits in the middle of an enormous traffic circle called the Place d’Étoile, with about a dozen streets and avenues shining out from it like sun rays. It’s a fantastic place to people watch and faire une promenade, take in the grandiose architecture and the Moulin Rouge in one long, blissful Parisian trajectory.
And if you’d rather run than walk, nearby Avenue Foch has a jogging path (you think Speedos are bad, wait ‘til you see what Parisians wear to jog in), and just a bit further, the lovely Bois de Boulogne. It’s an enchanting neighborhood, and though everywhere else in Paris is easily accessible by Metro, you may find yourself not wanting to leave the 16th arrondissement.
The Apartment
The lyricist Lorenz Hart summed it up in the song Thou Swell: “I’d feel so rich in a hut for two/Two rooms and kitchen I’m sure would do…” The apartment is 320 sq ft in size. This apartment packs some real punch for a place of modest proportion – altogether it’s a triumph of style and production value. A cozy little nest in one of the swankest neighborhoods in Paris – just right for that victory lap you and that special person in your life have been planning.
Once you’ve found the Avenue de la Grande Armée a spoke off of the Place d’Étoile, it’s a short walk past many parked Smart cars and moto dealerships to your building. You take the elevator to the 5th floor and enter. The studio’s sunny yellow walls and beautifully detailed molded ceilings will make you feel at home right away.
The living area features a foldout couch, a red-tiled bar with high stools coming out of the open kitchen, and a small table for your tête-a-têtes and to enjoy your goodies from the Parisian food markets. The salon opens into the bedroom, which has a full bed plus two comfy chairs, and a fireplace. The décor is warm and inviting, and you’re sure to get a great rest here after your day’s sightseeing exertions.
The bath features a white tiled, sparkling shower enclosure with plenty of shelf space for all your bath products and cosmetics. The toilet is American-style, located in the bathroom itself.
