Arrondissement System
For more than a century the city of Paris has
been divided into 20 districts called arrondisements .
These arrondisements begin at the city center and spiral out clockwise
in a concentric circle. Each of the 20 arrondisements is, in essence,
its own distinct neighborhood. Parisians generally refer to an arrondissement
simply by its number, however, some are known by endearing names
such as The Marais, The Latin Quarter, Montmartre, etc. Part of
the fun of getting to know Paris is learning the different personalities
of these neighborhoods!
