“The Loft” has been created with calm, tranquility, privacy, space, relaxation and “location, location, location” in mind! The ideal holiday retreat where one or two people can enjoy the art and culture, the geography, architecture, history and gourmet delights which abound throughout the town and the local region.
In the heart of the Vaucluse region of Provence, the medieval village of L’Isle sur la Sorgue, with its gentle sophistication and extraordinary character, is where the quiet country life and the buzz of daily village activity are in perfect harmony. Situated on the island in the centre of L’Isle sur la Sorgue, “The Loft” has very recently been totally restored and decorated with ‘creature comfort’ uppermost in mind!
Resting quietly in a small back street you’ll enter the building through a carved wooden door and immediately appreciate the warmth of the centuries old, curved stone staircase which takes you to the second floor and “The Loft”. Three picture windows bring in light and views (but no bugs, they’re screened!)....and with no building opposite there are no neighbours to wave to across the way! Best of all, two doors down you’ll delight in ambling off to one of L’Isle sur la Sorgues best restaurants, “La Prevote”, a must to visit....whether it be dining in their delightful courtyard under the shade of the olive trees, or inside where the river flows through!
‘The Loft’ is an open-plan, high ceilinged, loft-style apartment with two 90cm twin beds which can be made up as one 180cm king sized bed. The division between the sleeping area and the lounge area is an old 5-panel wood and fabric screen which I restored, inserting beautiful old linen, sourced at the local Sunday market, in the panels. The shower room houses a large shower, hand basin, w.c., hair dryer, washing machine, drying rack, ironing board and iron and heated towel rails. Kitchen facilities are plentiful with a microwave, oven/grill, 4 burner cook-top, dishwasher, fridge, coffee maker, toaster, kettle and more than sufficient utensils, crockery and cutlery should you feel ‘creative’** and decide to eat-in.
**(The well known Sunday market throughout the town is a MUST; Thursday’s farmers’ market excellent; and throughout the year the evening farmers’ market in the neighbouring village of Velleron, 5 minutes drive away, is superb for the freshest of fresh produce).
With an old wooden dining table and fabric covered chairs resting by one of the windows you can sip your morning coffee, munch on steaming croissants from the bakery around the corner, sip an “apero”, enjoy a lunchtime salad, light the candles for dinner... and watch the birds, bees and blue skies.....there’s oodles of space and comfort.
A collection of warm wooden furniture, some searched out at local antique and flea markets, some I’ve collected whilst living here, there and everywhere...... combined with the comfort of squishy cushioned sofa and chairs, topped with an eclectic art collection....I present you with “The Loft”. With telephone, television, a selection of English language channels, dvd, cd, radio and Wifi internet access, you’re linked to the world if needs be!
Air-conditioning in summer, heating in winter, a wonderful hideaway for holidays or a long sabbatical.
Should there be four of you travelling but desiring privacy and space, the ‘twin’ apartment I’ve called “La Niche Cachee” is on the first floor with similar facilities.
